If there is a swell magnet on the Northern Beaches, it’s definitely Curl Curl. This spot picks up virtually any swell coming in from the south, east and even north. Although it faces southeast, it’s often bigger here on north swells than the more northern facing Manly Beach. Curl Curl is also more top to bottom and it can barrel really well, especially on low-medium tides. As with most beachbreaks, quality depends largely on the sandbanks and Curl Curl definitely has a lot of different faces. Generally though, you’re looking at peaky A-frames that can pack a punch, with shoulders that are usually good for a couple of wacks and fun tubes on the inside. On good days and weekends it can get pretty crowded but there is room to roam if you pick your spot right. The current usually helps spread things out a bit too.
